Forms of Energy

preview image

Nature of Energy - The first part in a four-part series on the forms of energy that discusses the forms energy can take and how it can change from one form to another. Light - The second part in this series that reviews how light energy reacts with a variety of materials-reflecting or bouncing off some objects and refracting, or bending through other objects. Electricity - The third part in this series explores the basics of electric changes, circuits, and how electricity is generated. Sound - The fourth and final part in the Forms of Energy series that reviews how sound waves work and what happens in our ears that enables us to hear sound.

Objects in the Sky

preview image

Objects in the Sky explores the not only the object in our sky that are visible to the unaided eye, but also the planets and other elements that can be found in our solar system. The first section discusses features of clouds, the sun, comets, and meteoroids. The second section focuses on the eight planets in our solar system; their order and fundamental characteristics, dwarf planets, and asteroids.

Relationships in Space: The Earth, the Moon and the Sun

preview image

Relationships in Space explores relationships between the earth, the sun and the moon. It identifies the important differences between the physical properties of the earth and moon; and explores the cycles of light and temperature that change the way we see and experience the sun and moon. Section One discusses the important differences between the physical properties of the Earth, the Sun and the moon. Section Two focuses on the reasons why the moon?s appearance seems to be constantly changing and how the earth?s relationship to the sun changes the seasons.

Universal Building Blocks

preview image

Universal Building Blocks is the foundational course in a two-part chemistry set that precedes Chemical Reactions. It is intended for middle school or high school students and covers 1) atoms and their structures, 2) the Periodic Table and basic elements descriptions, and 3) how to combine basic elements together.

Secondary English

Answering Open Ended Questions

preview image

This unit reviews techniques sudents can use to answer open-ended questions and explains the criteria for evaluating students' responses.

Diabetes II 4.3 IBM Version

preview image

This version was able to import into the IBM Authoring Tool, version 4.6 was unable. This version uses the tracking setting in the Authoring tool.

Making Inferences

preview image

Making Inferences is designed to help you understand the process of arriving at inferences through information presented in texts as well as using you own prior knowledge. This tutorial covers 1) defining what inferences are by using real life examples, 2) how to discover inferences in text based materials, and 3) practicing making inferences using several texts of differing lengths and complexities.

Secondary Math

2-D Measurement: Length, Area, and Surface Area

preview image

This unit provides an overview of measurement and discusses how to accurately measure different kinds of two-dimensional and three-dimensional figures. Section one reviews units of linear measure, appropriate units of measure, and how a ruler is used to make linear measurements. Section two discusses how to determine dimensions of figures. It provides practice on finding the area of circles and polygons, and on finding the surface area of three-dimensional figures by using nets. Section three examines the effect on linear and area measures when dimensions are changed.

3-D Measurement: Volume

preview image

This unit explores the measurement of volume associated with 3-D objects. Section 1 discusses the volume of prisms and cylinders. Common household containers are used to demonstrate the components of prisms and cylinders as well as the calculation of their volumes. Section 2 explains the volume of pyramids and cones. We will solve real word problems regarding pyramids and cones requiring the use of volume.regarding pyramids and cones requiring the use of volume.

Unlocking the Pythagorean Theorem

preview image

This unit reviews the concepts and uses of the Pythagorean Theorem. The first section describes the characteristics of right triangles and the relationship between sides, the basics of the Pythagorean Theorem. This section also explores right triangles using models and graphic representations of the theorem. The second section explores real world uses and applications of the Pythagorean Theorem.

Secondary Science

Chemical Reactions

preview image

Chemical Reactions is the second in a two-part chemistry set that builds on part 1 "Universal Building Blocks". This tutorial 1) introduces chemical reactions and chemical equations, 2) identifies the residual evidences that chemical reactions leave behind, 3) illustrates the different types of chemical reactions, and 4) introduces how to analyze and balance chemical reactions.

Energy Transfer: Food Chains

preview image

The first unit of a three-part series on how energy is transferred among organisms that examines how to use simple graphic organizers to illustrate how energy is transferred from organism to organism through feeding relationships.

Energy Transfer: Food Pyramids

preview image

The final unit of this series that reviews how organisms at each trophic level, or energy level, support organisms at higher trophic levels.

Energy Transfer: Food Webs and Trophic Levels

preview image

The second unit of this series that explains how to use a detailed graphic organizer to depict complex feeding relationships and defines trophic levels.

Interactions

preview image

This two-part unit reviews facts about how organisms interact with each other and their environments. The first section defines ecology and reviews levels of ecosystems. The second section explores the kinds of interactions that occur within a community.

Making Measurements and Collecting Data

preview image

This unit reviews the basics of measurement. Section 1 introduces measurement, explains its history and defines different types of data. Section 2 explains the difference between accuracy and precision and how they are applied to measurement instruments.

Making Measurements and Using Instruments Part 1

preview image

This unit is intended to help you review the basics of measurement and using instruments. Section 1 introduces how to measure length using metric rulers and meters sticks. It also examines precision in measurement and provides helpful tips to help make measuring length easier. Section 2 explains how to measure mass and provides practice calibrating and using a balance.

Making Measurements and Using Instruments Part 2

preview image

This unit is intended to help you review the basics of measurement and using instruments. Section 1 introduces how to measure temperature and provides instruction on how to read various thermometers accurately. Section 2 explains how to measure volume and provides instruction on how to choose and use various measurement instruments.
